After receiving quotes from several (30+) different moving agency’s we decided to use World Wide Van Lines to move my stuff from Indiana down to my fiance’s house in Florida. Our customer service agent was very nice and helpful, and reduced the quote from $2,695 down to $1,234 after explaining that we were only moving a minimal amount of stuff. No appliances, no couches, no kitchen table, etc. Chad estimated we only had about 2,700 lbs. worth of stuff, and that he was still over estimating to give us a cushion. Upon delivery we would “receive money back” for however many lbs. we were under weight. Plus, they only employ “licensed professionals, who will take down and set up heavy furniture”. Perfect. We were sold. We signed the paperwork, gave Chad our credit card number and paid the $334 deposit, with the remaining $900 due on delivery.
A week before our move I spoke with Chad and everything was on schedule for the movers to be there June 17th. The morning of the 17th I called again to verify and was transferred over to the dispatch department who said everything was still on schedule and that the movers should be at the house shortly. I was given the name of our driver “Travis” and his phone number. I sat and waited, and waited, until 1:40p.m. Then I called “Travis” who was very rude, spoke very broken English, and who hatefully informed me they would be there sometime on Tuesday, June 21st. When I tearfully tried to explain to him we had my fiancé’s 12 year old and 4 year old flying into Florida on the 21st, and we had to be in Florida before Tuesday he yelled at me repeatedly “Shhhhh, YOU LISTEN”, then he told me “You don’t like, you find other company to move”. Finally Travis tells me he will do me a favor and send out his driver that evening, but I must pay his driver $900 IN CASH before he moves my stuff. No way. Not gonna happen. I called my fiancé who was flying in the next morning to make the 17 hour drive with me to get my car to his house. He called WWVL and spoke with Chad who sends us to “Kevin” the dispatch manager who promises to call us back in “a bit”. Of course they close, no one calls, no one answers the phones, it’s Friday evening and we now don’t have movers, my stuff is all packed in boxes, and the electricity is getting turned off the next day. Awesome. We frantically spend the next several hours trying to find some way to move everything the next day, on a budget we could afford, to no avail.
On June 18th, my fiancé, Tim, arrives in Indiana. At 11:30 a.m. “Kevin” calls us back and states he has new movers who will be at my house in about 3-4 hours. Thank God. The new mover, “Chris” will call when he is an hour away. Perfect. We head to the BBQ/Going away party my parents had planned, 15 minutes from my apartment. An hour later we get a call from “Chris” who is AT MY APARTMENT. So we tell him we will be there in 15 minutes, hop in the car, and head over. We get to the complex in 13 minutes and “Chris” and his helper are in a UHAUL driving out of the apartment complex. We wave them down, and they turn around and come back. Finally, we can get this done. The movers both speak very broken English, and are a bit difficult to understand, but they were very nice, and seemed to do a good job of loading everything. They even wrapped up my mirrors and hutch with blankets for protection. They didn’t mark anything, which was odd, but our stuff was in the back of the Uhaul, (someone elses stuff was in the front portion) and our stuff was going to be delivered first. The drivers verified the address and paperwork with us, but did not have a copy for our records. We discuss delivery dates, they let us choose between Tues. the 21st, or Weds. the 22nd. We chose the 22nd, shook the guys hands, and off they went.
It was a long drive, 17 hours worth, and somewhere during the road trip we get a call from dispatch that states the movers called and we were overweight by over 1,000 lbs, and we would owe an additional $400 on top of the $900 quoted on delivery. We completely disagree and ask for proof, and “Wendy” from dispatch states that we have the right to go with the drivers before and after they unload the stuff to the local weigh station. Perfect! Sounds like a good plan.
The 22nd of June comes and goes, without a word from our movers. I call “Wendy” in dispatch, she apologizes and gives a new delivery estimate of June 23rd or 24th.
The evening of June 23rd we hadn’t heard from the movers so we call. “Chris” apologizes and states a guarantee delivery date of Friday, Saturday or Sunday, June 24th, 25th, or 26th. Of course we sit and wait, and sit and wait, and guess what? No movers, no calls, no one returns our calls. On Saturday, June 25th I call and speak with “Wendy” in dispatch who tells me “You don’t have a delivery date. Maybe sometime in the next 30 days.” Before I can say anything, Wendy hangs up on me. I call back, she doesn’t answer. Wow.
June 26th and 28th we call and leave voicemails with “Chad”, “Kevin”, and “Wendy” at World Wide Van Lines, and with “Chris” who turns out to be a subcontractor for a business called Nordee and Company out of Buffalo, NY. No one returns our calls.
June 30th and July 2nd, same thing. We call, leave messages, no one calls us back. In the mean time, we file a claim with the BBB against WWVL and with Nordee and Company.
July 5th, I call and leave another message with “Kevin” and with “Chris”. I call dispatch and get a hold someone named Macey or something like that. I explain to her we are unable to find out where our stuff is and when it will be delivered. She states she will find out and call back within the hour. I wait three hours, then call back. She states she has not been able to get a hold of our driver.
We were told that my things were going to be delivered four days after pickup, and I packed accordingly. It is now two weeks later, no one can tell me anything, no one knows where our stuff is, and even World Wide Van Lines can’t get a hold of our driver “Chris”. While I may not of had a bunch of stuff, it is still valued at about $10,000. Mainly the bedroom suites, and mine and my children’s clothing, not to mention all the photographs, baby books, memorabilia, etc.
