I had been given approximately 30 days to find a new place to live because the condo I was living in was being sold. I sent a request for an estimate to move from my apartment in Leesburg, VA to Stafford, VA. I sent out lots of estimates and most came back with a "minimum 4 hours" around the same price. I chose Two Guys and a Truck, and corresponded with a "relocation specialist." I knew the move was going to take longer than 4 hours and asked the gentleman on the phone "what if it takes longer than 4 hours? How much is it going to cost then?" "Well IF it takes longer than 4 hours, it'll be the hourly rate pro-rated to the quarter hour." As a single mom with 2 kids to provide for, I would have appreciated a realistic estimate so I could have budgeted accordingly. I would have appreciated the "relocation specialist telling me "It's going to take at least 8 hours because of the drive alone." Then I could have made sure I had the money for it and saved some of my tax refund instead of trying to pay other bills.
The crew showed up on time and proceeded to take 5 hours just to pack up the first apartment. As a military brat and veteran, I've been through a LOT of moves (but this is the first one I hired professional help for) and it's NEVER taken that long to pack up a house - even when people came to do the packing for me. In all, it took 10 1/2 hours for the entire move - needless to say I was not expecting that bill. And some of my furniture is still wrapped in plastic which has NEVER happened before.
Next time I move, I will NOT be hiring Two Guys and a Truck, but rather a moving company that gives me a realistic estimate so I don't have to worry about how I'm going to pay rent.
