If you're searching for a moving company please take my advice and do NOT use Statewide Movers. We used them for a move from Austin, TX to Portland, OR in June and are still suffering from it. We had major issues with them since the day they picked up our belongings. First of all, the movers who picked up our things did nothing but talk about us and the "good-looking" girls at our apartment complex in a very inappropriate way the entire time (not realizing that I spoke enough Spanish to understand their conversations). It was incredibly rude and unprofessional. Then, after the truck was loaded, they informed us that we would be owing them an extra $400 at drop-off because their original estimate was WAY off. On top of which, I was told that we would need to pay 25% on the day of pick-up by cash, money order, credit card, or check - it turned out that the movers required 50% up front by cash or check only and then the other 50% on delivery day by cash or postal money order only. After all of this, we were told that our things would be delivered that Friday (June 24th) and that a driver would call when he was 24 hours away from Portland. Thursday evening, I still hadn't heard from them so I called and was told that our things we in Dallas, TX but would be there Saturday or Sunday. Over the next few days, I made several other phone calls that ended the same way - "your things haven't left yet but will soon." Long story short, our things were not delivered until almost 3 weeks after the date they promised. And to top it all off, every single phone call, email, voicemail, etc. that I left with Statewide Movers (particularly those with John Grimaldi) were flat out ignored for those 3 weeks. We had no idea where our things were, when they would be delivered, or even how they were being stored until they were picked up for delivery. After 3 awful weeks of unreturned/ignored attempts at communication, I finally had to threaten to call the BBB and the attorney general before I received a call that our things were in fact on their way and was given a driver's name and number. Then, when our things finally did arrive, our experience with Statewide Movers got even worse. Our leather armchair and two boxes had water damage (go figure how that one happened), the back hook-up component of our floor standing speakers was broken off, most of our boxes were smashed in half or falling apart and coming open, and a leaning desk that we had just purchased was completely smashed. The shelves were broken off, the desk part was cracked, the frame of the desk was about to break in half...it was completely ruined. Then, the mover went on to tell us that "I would just get some glue and fix it. I don't know about you. Some people like to just throw things out, they don't like to fix them." I was furious. Our desk looked like it fell off a 10 story building and he was telling me that I should just get some glue for it?!? WOW. As we opened our boxes that afternoon and next day, we realized that we had broken dishes, books bent in half, a broken knife (again, go figure), and all sorts of other possessions destroyed or lost (specifically a $300 peacoat that was in a sealed box which turned up smashed and partially opened - leading us to believe that it either fell out or was taken out). Since then, I have filed a claim with their adjustment agency, which again is incredibly unhelpful and non-communicative, and am STILL trying to even get someone on the phone to be able to figure out if our claim was approved or denied. These last three months have been a nightmare dealing with Statewide. So my advice - avoid them at all costs and tell everyone you know to avoid them as well.
