I hired Imperial Moving and Storage for my move from Long Island, NY to Chicago, IL on June 2009. There were no issues prior to pickup of my belongings. I was able to get an estimate online and revise it online (sold some items prior to move).
Pickup was on 6/5/2009. Delivery date was on 6/19/09. On the delivery date, I discovered that several of the stickers used to match my boxes/belongings to teh inventory sheet were unintelligible. Therefore, it was difficult to keep track of which belongings actually arrived. It was only on final unpacking that I realized that one lamp and one box was missing. This , by itself, was not surprising. I understand and accept the fact that things get lost and/or broken by movers.
However, the driver did not give me any information on who to call or what to fill out if any items were missing. He basically said "it's all there" and "it was checked several times in NY before. it's all there." I called the company and they told me to just bring it up on the email survey they had sent. No problem. I did this, and was expecting a reply to address this issue, but it never came (June 25, 2009). I tried contacting them several more times by email (everytime I called them, their line was busy), to no avail.
I am very upset at the unprofessionalism of the company, esp since they were polite and prompt prior to the move, and this suddenly changed once they had my business (ie they received the money for this move). BTW, my actual bill was $400 more than the estimate, which was revealed to me after my items were loaded on the truck. I had no way of confirming this, other than the measurements the loaders gave. The items lost included a lamp worth about $80 and a box of items that are not replaceable (i can't really put an estimate on that).
Overall, my impression is that they stop caring for the customer after the money is received. I have filed a better business bureau complaint in the meantime.
