These movers get an F for the following reasons:
- late pick-up, extremely late delivery
- LIARS (read more about this below)
- will charge you a 7% transaction fee if you use a credit card...they want CASH
- unprofessional, inexperienced movers
Was in a time crunch and needed movers (New York City to Boston) for the next day. I called Flat Rate, a company I had used with much success before, but unfortunately they were not available until the following week. Called a few other companies with good reviews, but none of them were available. Finally, I found Xpress Movers, and their quote seemed reasonable and reviews on this site were good, so I booked them.
At first, the people I spoke with on the phone were polite and seemed helpful. They gave me an estimate of the packing materials, but when the movers arrived, they told me the actual cost would be more than 3x the estimate I was quoted on the phone.
The movers arrived about half an hour late. There were two guys doing the move - one was clearly experienced, the other stood around like a complete dud. They took forever to move not much furniture out of my studio apartment.
I was told the furniture would be delivered the next morning at around 9:30. The next day, we sat at home waiting for the furniture to arrive, but there were no phone calls, emails from the movers letting us know they would be late. I finally called them at around 2:30, and the dispatcher said she didn't know where the movers were. She said she would check and call me back. I got a phone call about 30 minutes later - they were going to arrive between 6-7pm. When I asked why, she said it was because the movers ran into traffic coming out of New York that morning. INTERESTING, considering we saw our moving guys eating dinner at a service area in Connecticut (halfway to Boston) the night before!!
They didn't arrive until 8:30pm and there were no apologies offered. They said they had been caught in traffic. When I asked if they had come from NYC that day, they looked me in the eye and said 'yes.' And refused to lift a finger until I signed all the paperwork. When I booked the move, I had told the man on the phone I would be using an AmEx card. He failed to tell me that they charge 7% for credit card payments. They held my furniture hostage in the moving truck until the issue was resolved.
They moved the furniture into the new apartment - and the next day, I discovered the damage they had done to the new hardwood floor because they couldn't figure out how to fit my sectional couch together. Apparently, they thought repeatedly banging the couch up and down on the floor would work.
I can't believe people have given this moving company positive reviews. These people are scammers and liars. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE do not support this business.
