I had a binding contract on May 18th with X-press Van lines for $1174.00 for a move from Atlanta to NYC on (Fri) 5/20/2011. Jennifer was the Xpress Rep.
Upon arrival of the movers (6 hours late) they began packing up items that I was already charged for on my initial list and placed them in larger boxes.
They also covered my furniture in plastic sheets and I stated they were only supposed to be covered in blankets. At the end of the packing of the truck they charged me a $318.00 packing fee...which I stated on the bill that I did not authorize.I verbally told them not to do it and they said, "This is what we do" Along with that they charged an additional $893.00 for space on the truck...which THEY created by "packing" my items. The contract I signed when the mover arrived was for $1174.00. I did NOT agree to the new total of $2104.75.
I immediately emailed Jennifer of what happened as the office was closed for the weekend. The movers left at 11:00pm, left a mess and also left my basement door wide open with lights on in basement.
I spoke with Sergio on morning Monday, 5/23/11, manager from company and he agreed that the mover should not have done this and would try to get the additional charges removed. He spoke with his superior and they would not remove the charges.
They "discounted" it by $250.
The driver continuously called me until 9:30pm Sunday night saying if you don't have the money you won't get your stuff.
They made me sign an additional contract or told me they would charge me $175.00 fine for not letting the truck deliver that day. I had to pay $600.00 CASH and then $1245.00 on a credit card.
When the truck arrived the assistant driver told me I needed to file a formal complaint against the driver because he heard me tell the driver specifically NOT to pack the items as they were already approved/ listed by Jennifer (employee of Xpress Van Lines).
I tried 3 times to call back Sergio regarding the info that the assistant gave me regarding filing a complaint and no one from X-press Van Lines has returned my call.
DO NOT USE THEM! As you can see by the other reviews on websites we all have similar stories. They are FRAUD. They pretend to be nice then rip you off!! I even watched them take someone else's stuff out of the truck to get my items and they were tearing apart the boxes and clothes were falling all over the ground and they broke their lamp. I have filed complaint with BBB (as others have....see the reviews!)
