Speaking with Lamar to get a contract with the company was pleasant and fun. Once the documents were signed, however, I never heard from him again and that's when the horrible experience started.
It was my fault because I didn't look into this company like I should have, like looked at this site, because kept thinking I already had. I didn't realize that the documents, which I signed in a hurry and didn't read - another big problem on my part, said that they could store your stuff, by taking it all out and putting it in a warehouse, then putting it all back in, essentially moving it twice, and that it could be delayed. Every aspect of the 'contract' can be changed as everything is essentially just parameters. It protects the mover but not the people who own the stuff being moved.
My first warning was when the Quality Assurance guy called up and took forever to call me back, thereby going into the 5 day period when you cannot cancel at all and that's in the contract, and told me that my stuff sounded like it was going to be much heavier and I should pay almost twice as much as my original quote to make sure there was room on the truck and that it wouldn't be left. He actually sneered when he hung up when I didn't go for his ploy. This was another huge mistake on my part is to never hire a company who gives you a quote on your stuff without ever having looked at it. Don't get an estimate, get a bottom line quote.
The guys who packed my stuff did fine but said they estimated it as heavier than what we originally estimated. We held our breath until the final cost came in and it was a couple of hundred less, which we thought was awesome. However, that was what was owed after the deposit, not the total bill. This was not explained at the time of the call. We had to deduce that when calling later. So the bill was $1500 over the original estimate. That's when I bothered to read the contract and found out they stored it and could do whatever they wanted essentially. That's when I found out that another company, MCI (Moving Connection, Inc.), was actually doing the move.
Then it just entered the ridiculous as that company's phone lines weren't really working, on top of the Hispanic accent, and World could never give me any information like where my stuff was. Five days after the last date it was supposed to be delivered, we finally found out it was leaving the warehouse. Then I was told to get a money order or cashier's check. So I got one, but then the delivery driver told me at 5:45pm on a Friday that the cashier's check wouldn't work, that it HAD to be a money order from the post office. Apparently you can stop payment on a cashier's check.
Thankfully I was able to get the cash back from the bank then get to the post office and get the money order before they delivered on Sunday. And thankfully I at least read that if the place they were delivering was too far they would charge extra, or if there were too many stairs. So I got a storage place to deal with that and there were no extra charges.
The move back in went ok though I have to say they weren't totally careful with the move of the furniture and dropped at least a few boxes.
This place has given me nightmares and kept me up all night many nights. They just have you over a barrel and there's nothing you can do.
