United states van lines

This has been a horrible experience. I contracted with them two months in advance thinking I was being very courteous and giving enough time for them to coordinate a mover. Up until the time they collected my deposit, I was getting excellent customer service and phone calls frequently. After that, things started unraveling, i.e. we were "bumped" off our original truck and they were working "very hard" to book us on another truck. We signed the contract and paid half the deposit in April 2011. We were scheduled to fly to Virginia on June 15th. The movers were supposed to pick up our belongings about three days before that on June 11th or 12th. US van lines then scheduled a new pick up date of June 19th. The 19th of June came and went. Here we are the 20th still waiting for our stuff; sleeping on the floor in an empty apartment with a 2 month old newborn in Virginia. We made numerous phone calls, pressuring their representatives to give us answers about who would pick up our household goods, can we speak to an upper level executive, where can we send an executive complaint, how long we actually have to wait in an empty apartment with our newborn without the availability of our essential household goods? Many more questions we asked as you could only imagine a family would ask when they have a 2 month old and had to move clear across the country to an area that is alien to them and there is no family support within 1000 miles. All questions have gone unanswered or wiggled out of. We tried booking another carrier and be done with USVL all together but none could accommodate our now strict time constraints. Everyone else is booked for the next three weeks. We are literally at the mercy of USVL; they still have our deposit, and no one else can pick our household goods in time. It is June 20th, our household goods were originally scheduled to be picked up on the 11th or 12th...then the 19th, our stuff is boxed and still waiting at our old home. We are still here waiting in an empty apartment, eating sandwiches and cereal, and now my baby is running out of diapers. We have 300 pampers!!! Sitting in our garage at this very moment 1000 miles away, and believe me we packed about 80 before we left on the 15th. Not to mention we are sleeping on the floor. We have incurred extra expenses because US Van Lines did not hold up there end of the deal. We had to pack heavier for the flight and pay extra check bag fees, buy essential household and baby items etc. Those expenses are monetary and can be compensated, but the stress, frustration, helplessness, and feeling of uncertainty caused by this ordeal cannot be rectified with a set monetary value. I would never recommend this company to anyone!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
