My father bought a stereo console in 1969 when I was 12 years old. It sat in the same spot for 40 years and was in perfect, flawless condition. When my father passed away, my stepmother asked me if I would like to have it. It still worked perfectly and I was very happy to have something that had belonged to my Dad. I contracted with TSI to have it shipped from Florida to California. The customer service at TSI was good and their communications were prompt, courteous and professional. Regrettably, TSI contracts with a third party for the actual move, and the movers caused considerable damage to the stereo, breaking off three of the legs and losing one of them altogether. Packing was minimal--just a drop cloth thrown over the furniture. The carrier's liability is limited to ten cents per pound. For the 80 lb stereo console their liability is a mere $8.00, so they basically don't care what happens to your furniture. They treat it as if it were garbage. It cost me $500 to ship this unit and $800 to repair the damage done to it. The repair was expensive due to the curvilinear, Scandinavian design of the legs--plus I had to drive it 120 miles one way to the nearest qualified person that could handle a repair of this nature. This could have been avoided altogether with a little careful handling. I was so shocked when I saw the condition it arrived in. I had insured the stereo for $600, but only got $342 from the insurance settlement (after three months and an ordeal of paperwork--they make you "prove" that your furniture was damaged, "prove" its value, etc.) The fine print lists a $250 deductible. The worst part for me was the way they treated an heirloom piece of furniture that had a lot of sentimental value for me. I will not use TSI again and I can't recommend them based on my experience.
