After getting quotations from a number of companies to move my personal and household belongings from Hong Kong to New York City, I decided to go with SwiftRelo. They were one of the least expensive and also seemed reputable. Unfortunately, that didn't really prove to be the case. My belongings were delivered with one box missing. SwiftRelo's response was slow, defensive, and frankly, unapologetic at almost every point during the process. Nearly one week after I reported the loss, their initial reply was to tell me that the insurance they sold me did not cover this type of loss because it was a "total loss policy." In the realm of most types of insurance, I suffered a total loss, but unfortunately in maritime insurance a total loss is defined as the entire ship sinking, so my claim was denied. The box contained clothing that was declared at USD2000 on the packing documents, and SwiftRelo couldn't even figure out at what point the box was either lost or stolen, becauseXXXin their wordsXXXthey have so many different agentsXXXand apparently no system of checking or tracking the packing list at various points during the shipment. Unfortunately I am out of luck; SwiftRelo never even offered to refund or compensate me for any of the moving services that they did not fulfill. For anyone considering moving, I would recommend looking for a more reliable carrier.
