I come from a military family that has moved at least 25 times and let me say this was officially the worst one we’ve ever experienced. First due to a massive stroke in our family we tried to cancel this move and get a refund on our deposit. Southside moving refused stating that is was against policy so we said we would leave it on the books. We also called two days later to confirm the time and date of the move. Paul confirmed it saying it was all set for Sat May 14th at 8 am. By about 12 we were finally contacted and notified we had been taken off the books by accident and the move would be rescheduled to the following Monday or Tuesday. I also requested we be refunded our deposit at this point so we could use a different company. This was denied and I was told they would work on getting the move to happen the same day.
By 1 I received a call, stating another crew would be leaving Va beach shortly to come take care of everything and would probably get here by 3 or 3:30. They arrived after 4 loaded everything without wrapping any items in packaging materials, which was supposed to be included. They finished by 8 and didn’t make it to the storage unit before it closed, so all our items went to the warehouse in Va Beach till Monday We were offered no discounts or compensation and were also told that we were 400 pounds over our poor weight estimate and would be charged for this. We also never received any copies of the weight tickets, which I have been told is standard procedure from other companies.
On Monday they unloaded everything and when leaving the facility proceeded to back into the storage building and left significant damage ($600 worth). I called Deanna on Tuesday and was told it would be taken care of, she also said she would see what could be done about none of my items being wrapped for storage which was included in our initial estimate. Nick called after 5 pm that evening leaving a message saying we would be given $25 off our final pricing for the inconvenience. Also in the move at least one item was crushed in the truck, it was only a $40 shoe rack but still $25 was the only sort of compensation we were ever offered.
At this point it has now been over a month and the damages have not been taken care of so the storage company is trying to charge us since southside moving is refusing to take responsibility. They are also not returning phone calls when we try to inquire about the status of the issues.
