I'd like to pass on my horrible move experience to all so they can gain some valuable knowledge on the move process related to Sky Moving and Storage Inc. and on the horrible hook and sink marketing of Sky Moving and Storage Inc. I understand that reading negative comments are not what people want to hear or read but this is a true story taking place on March 4th, 2011. I recommend that anyone reading this please take the negative comments seriously as some of them seem to be similar. In my mind this means this is the culture of the company. Bottom line is ask lots of questions to the customer service agent prior to signing any documents and really read the online reviews. A good company will really not have bad reviews. Also, take a look at the Better Business Bureau rating on this company...a strong D mostly related the following situations that I experienced.
I had a local move in Jacksonville, FL moving from a 3 bed 2 bath home to a 4 bed 3 bath home...mileage from origin to destination was approximately 22 miles. I received lots of quotes from other moving companies ranging from $790 to $1,000. All moving companies estimated that the move would take 8 hours and that this move would be suitable for a 3 man team. The only exception to this is was Sky Moving and Storage who estimated a 5 hour move dropping their estimate considerable below the rest of the estimates.
Since moving is stressful enough as it is I did not really think about this and I did not read the fine print in the CONTRACT.
The majority of my frustration and overall complaint really stems from me not reading the fine print. I however, believe that a good and honest company would walk a customer through the fine print of the contract specifically reminding them the estimate provided is only that an estimate and pricing are really expected to change.
Once the movers got to my house to begin packing that is exactly what happened. Fragile items that one would think would be covered in the wrapping and packing are not....i.e. TV and glass tables. They either would not move it or had to charge me additional money to package....something that I was not expecting. After $350 later of just packing material to pack 4 "fragile" items my estimate was now over 1/2 the estimated amount. Again, something that I was expecting. Ultimately, I had to pay for additional packing material and an additional 2 labor hours. My total bill was $1,155 from the estimated original of $594. This is a huge jump from the estimate and would honestly make any rational person upset especially a big day like a move.
The worst part of the whole experience was the customer service that I did not receive once I called to discuss the additional charges with the customer service agent. They were rude, did not listen to my concerns and ultimately kept pointing out that I had signed the contract that stated that I agreed to the extra charges or they would simply not pick up the items. If they didn't take the items that would have cost extra money to me through renting a u-haul or something similar....not what I wanted and not what I thought I was purchases through Sky Moving Inc. Lastly, after my household goods were picked up at my origin location they would not offload at the destination until I had they had the additional money in hand.
Overall, the whole experience was very poor and I do not recommend this company. I think that a lot of what happened could have been avoided by reading the fine print and looking at the online reviews. They are not a customer focused company...they are money driven. My recommendation to the Sky Moving is that if you treated customers with more respect and actually helped and was honest from the beginning you would get a lot more business. I hope that nobody has to go through what I went through. If you don't have to use this company do NOT!
