I read so many bogus good reviews prior to selecting Simplicity Moving and Storage that I can't believe they were truthfully submitted by actual customers. This company should be renamed Simplicity Stealers and Robbers. Refer to the Post by Todd and my nightmare experience was almost identical. This company is full of scam artists. When talking to the company for quotes and setting up the move, they always picked up or replied within minutes, not hours or days, minutes. The saleswoman, Paula made herself available even in the evenings and weekends. They quoted me a price of $3600 with a $300 discount for booking before a certain date, which I did. Based on my conversation and estimation for a 4 bedroom house from which we were not taking the dining room set and only 2 bedrooms of furniture with twin beds. They assured me that a 26 foot truck would be more than adequate with room to spare. THIS IS A CLASSIC SCAM AS I LEARNED AFTERWARDS. They quote you a low price with an inadequate truck so they can pressure you on the day you are moving when you learn that all of your belongings are not going to fit on the truck. If I can make a suggestion, pack everything and have a representative come by to see what size truck(s) you'll need and sign a BINDING contract. This way there are no surprises. I was so close to using ABF or PODS and wish I had but I didnt' want to coordinate separate loaders, drivers and unloaders. This was a mistake in hindsight because SO MUCH of my belongings was damaged and some even missing. If you load the stuff yourself and lock the containers you know you'll get everything back. The problem is with the ridiculously poor standard insurance coverage is and how ridiculously expensive additional coverage is. At 60 cents a pound of coverage a broken $2000 LED TV weighing 100 pounds would reimburse you $60 if you submitted a claim and even get paid. The claim process makes you jump through hoops to the point you just give up knowing that even if you get paid it's barely worth your time to follow through. Anyway, getting back to my experience, as I said earlier, I was originally quoted a price of $3600 minus $300 for early booking discount. On the day of the move, the 26 foot truck arrived at 11:00 instead of the agreed 8:00 to 9:00 AM time. So they started late to begin with. The owner (or one of the owners), Simon shows up, looks around and immediately tells me that all my belongings will not fit on the truck. He tells me that I will need at least another truck of the same size. He said it's not a problem, he can get another truck within a couple of hours and said he can move everything for $6500, yes almost twice as much. After some negotiation, we arrived at a price of $5500 minus $300 for the discount mentioned earlier and he agreed to give me a dedicated tractor trailer by combining the two separate truck loads onto one in their Shrewsbury warehouse and guarantee the delivery in 2 days. I'm getting tired of typing so I'm going to try to abbreviate the rest of the review. After the 1st truck was filled, the 2nd truck came late and half full already so all my belongings did not get loaded on the Saturday. They promised a 3rd truck on Saturday which didn't show. They promised the remaining items would be picked up at 6:00 am the next morning. That truck didn't arrive until 9:00. The finished loading the truck at 12:30 PM. I had to drive 15 hours to get to Atlanta by 8:00AM to start work. We left the house a mess and left at 1:30PM. We arrived in Atlanta at 3:00AM after driving straight through. The driver called us while on the road to say the truck will be there to unload at 5:00AM. I explained how tired we were and he agreed to come at 10:00AM. I was originally told they would not be able to come earlier than Monday afternoon or Tuesday morning. The driver showed up with a 26 foot truck at 11:00 and only half my belongings saying that another truck was right behind him and should be arriving around the time he was done unloading. The agreement was also for them to bring the boxes and furniture to the rooms as indicated on the box. This driver said that he was told to leave my stuff in the garage and the 2nd truck with 4 guys was to move the items to their respective rooms because he had to be in Ohio as soon as possible. When leaving, he pretended (for absolutely no reason) to be talking to the 2nd truck driver claiming that they were having a burger about 45 minutes away and would be arriving soon. Of course, that truck was non-existent and did not show. My family and I sat on our asses waiting for the truck to arrive. Of course now when I called, no one answered!! Finally some old lady called me the next day around 11AM (now Tuesday) and tells me that the truck should be arriving around 12:30. Of course no truck arrived and after many unanswered calls, Simon, the loser of all losers, calls me at 8:00PM to tell me the truck will arrive at 10:00-10:30 the next morning (Wednesday). Finally on Wednesday at around 11:00 the truck driver calls me to tell me he'll be there in 45 minutes. He finally showed up at 1:30 with a 19-year old skinny kid that had no experience instead of 4 movers!! The driver had a back problem so it was like an old lady and a skinny teenager that was supposed to unload the truck (with stuff mixed with other customers' belongings--more on that later). My wife, and extended family (here to help) quickly realized that these two buffoons were not going to be able to unload the truck and move all the boxes out of the garage themselves. Of course we had to help otherwise nothing was going to get done. Then the audacity of the truck driver to demand an extra $100 dollars because our 1 flight of stairs (which was included in the price) was actually 14 steps instead of the 10 steps that constitutes a 'flight' of stairs. I had no choice to pay them because they hold your belongings as hostage unless you pay them before they unload the truck, IN CASH, no less. Then something remarkable happened, we saw only the 19 year old kid was unloading the truck so I asked him where the driver was. He told me the little girl needed his beauty sleep so he went to take a nap. It took us about 20 minutes to get that idiot out of the truck cab again. Can you believe the cojones on this m'fer!! So total damages: both kids' beds (mattress and box springs) ruined because they were soaking wet (they must have left them out in the rain when switching trucks or something, heirloom quality wooden furniture scratched all over the place, furniture legs broken or cracked, refrigerator dented and external parts missing, Audio/Video Receiver damaged, Infinity speaker set box was destroyed (looked like they threw all the boxes around). We're currently in a temporary rental so we haven't even unpacked all the boxes but I'm sure some of the china is broken, kitchen table completely scratched, disassembled furniture (which was supposed to be reassembled) is missing so much of the hardware that I can't even put it back together (if you have furniture that needs to be disassembled, I suggest you do it yourself or expect all the screws and hardware to be missing), missing entire boxes of goods, missing a brand new mountain bike, missing a dvd player, missing a hand truck. floor lamps completely demolished. I think they bring the stuff back to NJ so the sleaze ball Simon can go through and keep whatever he wants. They tried to deliver some of another customer's belongings (the teen kid). I had to tell him it wasn't mine. (imagine how much stuff gets delivered to the wrong customers!!) Additionally, they dropped my son's dresser in the old house and completely destroyed a wall and a door in the hallway and put so many dings and dents into the walls of the new place that I still have to fix. Trust me, it's better to use ABF or PODS and hire local laborers to load and unload your belongings. I will never hire a fly-by-night moving company again. EVER!! DO NOT TRUST YOUR WORTHY BELONGINGS TO THESE UNWORTHY PIECES OF @#$! I think if a box said 'fragile' on it, they made extra efforts to throw it around!!
