1. Safe Load Promised:
Job would not be brokered out; truck would be a Safe Load owned truck, workers would be Safe Load background checked, uniformed and employed by SL.
1. What actually happened:
Brokered. Not Safe Load background-checked workers. Hired nearby homeless man to unload truck.
Job brokered out to Empire Moving DOT #1044554 (photo taken of truck)
Workers were NOT employed by Safe Load. Not uniformed.
When delivery driver arrived, there were three unloaders with him. Before beginning to unload, there was a 4th guy who looked homeless; I asked who’s this guy? The driver said “a guy from the street who will help unload so it will go faster”. I said absolutely not – that will not be covered by insurance!
* Right after that incident, we called the Safe Load office and asked for a manager. Spoke with Manager Jason Roberts and told him how upset we were and he said, “What do you want me to do about it?” which was even more infuriating. Instead of sounding astounded that this was happening to us, Roberts was rude and insulting, called my husband “boy” and said it wasn’t his problem.
2. Safe Load Promised:
50” TV Wood Crate
New hi-end mattress protection
2. What actually happened:
No TV wood crate was used
Mattress FOLDED in half. Broke mattress along center line. Manufacturer says repair isn’t possible, must be replaced.
3. Safe Load Promised:
Sales guy Maxx said he would oversee the job and make sure everything happened as promised.
3. What actually happened:
After unloading I contacted Maxx and said I was upset because: the move was brokered, employees not SL background-checked as promised, driver hired a homeless man…. He responded simply, “Contact the office”. I responded “You lied to me”. He responded “I do not lie and if you contact me again I will call the police and file harassment charges.” (I have screenshots of this)
4. Safe Load Promised:
Long carry would be calculated by length of carry
4. What actually happened:
Delivery driver said the length was 400’ (+$600 for long carry). My apartment building manager had the floor plan, which showed only 300’. The driver said he measured 400’ and that the floor plan was wrong. When I challenged him, saying that floor plan measurements are exact, he said, “Fine, I will unload your stuff here on the street.” I asked him to compromise considering the facts. He said no. So, we forked out another $600 for our “full-service” move. The overcharged difference (between 300' and 400') was $150.
5. Safe Load Promised:
Charged based on weight
5. What actually happened:
Yes, charged by weight. But original estimate was 3500lbs and our shipment was 6600 lbs.
Other complaints:
- Before pickup+delivery it was a nightmare trying to get a hold of someone to find out if/when the truck was showing up. I’d call the office, they told me to call dispatch. I’d call dispatch, he wouldn’t answer. Call back multiple times, finally get him on the line, he’d tell me to call the driver. Called the driver, his voicemail is full. Nightmare. So much run around and stress.
- The pickup team didn’t bring tools, we had to unpack our toolbox for them to use
- Upon delivery, I was forced to sign a document BEFORE they unloaded the truck that stated, “I’ve received all of my items and they are in good condition”. When I said, “I’d rather sign this after everything’s unloaded,” he said, “I won’t open the truck until you sign this.”
- No plastic to cover the carpets – very soiled
- Obviously no customer service or follow up
