I booked a move from Augusta, Ga. to Nashville, Tenn. with Precision Movers. The week prior to my move, the dispatcher called and asked if I could move up the date one day because the movers were ahead of schedule. I agreed. I met the movers on the agreed date at the storage facility where my goods were located.
Once we arrived, we discovered that there was some confusion: the storage facility was to close in one hour. The drivers became angry and yelled at me asking how I could not have known. I live in Nashville, and had only been to the facility once before. He went on to berate me about how much more work he had to do now. Another became visibly angry and told me that he was not going to be able to see his wife the next evening as he promised her. I told them they were the ones who wanted to come a day early, not me. Yes, I admit that I should have verified the facility's hours. Most places have 24 hour access, and I should not have assumed it was the same here. Mea culpa. But that is not an excuse to treat someone who is paying you money like garbage. Furthermore, they themselves had been in contact with the storage facility and could have verified this.
The drivers then agreed to come the next morning at 6:30. I casually asked if we could make it an hour later, and the first driver became rude again, sarcastically noting how nice it would be if he could "sleep in". That was the last straw. I told them that I was going to cancel my move with them if that was how they were going to treat their customers. I would have GLADLY complied with them if they had not been so rude. Afterall, I need my stuff. I drove off.
I had made a $200 deposit that was non-refundable if I were to cancel. I was fine with losing that, but the sales manager at headquarters called me on my cell phone shortly after the dispute. He didn't even ask me what had happened. He said they were going to charge my card an additional $1000 (one thousand) for canceling the move. I checked my account and they did. I had signed no contract. Talk about adding insult to injury!
Sam, the boss of the company who authorized the $1000 charge, has refused to talk to me on this matter. He had the nerve to tell me through one of his employees that I could use the $1000 as a credit for a new move with them. SERIOUSLY?! I disputed the charge, and will never use Precision again!
