This happened in March 2008, but it still makes me angry thinking about it. I scheduled a move for March 13, 2008. When the movers arrived, we discovered that the storage facility was going to close in 5 hours. Upon hearing this, the movers became very angry at me, cursing me, and complaining about how they would have to stay another day. I apologized, but it escalated to a level where they were being openly hostile. I was not about to stand there and take this verbal abuse, so I told them I was canceling my move with their company. I did not deserve to be treated that way and they would not have to stay overnight. I would not be doing business with them.
I had already paid my security deposit which was $250, and I was fully aware that I would not be getting that back. I know deposits are there for a reason.
The manager called me on my cell phone later that night and informed me that they would be charging an additional $1000 (one thousand) dollars to my credit card in addition to my deposit. I checked my card later the next day, and they did.
They had no right to do this. This is credit card fraud. I disputed the charge with Discover Card (don't use them either!), and after removing the charge and reposting it several times due to the tug-of-war with Precision, the credit card company finally told me I would be charged because they are "not a court of law". They said I would have to sue Precision in court if I wanted my money back.
I lived in Tennessee and had no way to travel to New York City to file a small claims suit. I wish I could have!
Now I'm out $1000. I should have filed a claim with BBB, but I didn't really know how it worked back then. It's probably too late now.
