I am not a person that usually leaves negative comments about the companies I do business with, but feel that this particular company plans on scamming their clients from the very beginning. We planned our move and interviewed several moving companies prior to making a decision. Robert from Northern Van Lines was the most "professional" and appeared to be genuine and honest in his assessment and estimate of our move. Boy, were we wrong. I had gone through our entire home listing each item and then included a 10 x 20 storage facility stacked floor to ceiling with boxes. Robert explained that the truck would be there and then go to the storage to pick up our belongings. The truck that showed up was a 26 foot, old piece of junk that wouldn't even carry the belongings in the storage unit let alone a house full of furniture. Long story short, they sent two trucks and still didn't have the room. The original estimate was changed to over double the cost ($12,000) and we had to be out of the house in less than 12 hours. They offered to leave and us find another moving company, but obviously we were stuck and they knew it. To "accomodate" us, they promised a Sunday delivery, but didn't show up until the following Thursday. They said all of the people who loaded and unloaded the trucks were employees of the company- wrong!! They found them and hired them from Craigslist. We have no idea who the 4 men were going through our new home, unloading our belongings.
We have numerous broken and/or damaged items. I spent hours wrapping each fragile item in paper and bubble wrap, but the boxes arrived beat-up. Come to find out, they were unpacked and re-packed numerous times. No wonder many of our items were broken. One of the boxes has literally in pieces with things falling out...expensive things that I had packed with due diligence.
Once the contract was signed, Robert could no longer be reached; didn't answer his phone and didn't return e-mails. It was like this "professional" person became our enemy. I have moved across country before and used Allied. I wish I had used them again. I didn't experience any of this. Moving is stressful already, then to be misled inentionally just put both my husband and I over the top. I will NEVER recommend this company to anybody and will do more homework next time BEFORE I hire anybody. I will NEVER let somebody estimate a cost without putting eyes on what needs to be moved.
