North American Van Lines although sounded very professional was not. (The sales rep Matthew Wolf) quoted me at $1499 to move a two bedroom apartment in NYC to Michigan. (we were only moving one twin bed, two dressers and a medium sized sectional couch). When the movers arrived they said the square footage was double than what was quoted and charged $3400! I didn't complain wand we agreed given we were in a bind. I asked how can someone underestimate a move by so much?!? He's either incompetent or a liar who just wanted a deposit. The worst part is he said the movers wanted 50% up front which we paid. However we got an Email stating we owed 65% before our stuff would be on a truck to be delivered which we had to send by certified check. How does a sales rep not know how much is owed!?!?
After talking with the distributor Olga and Matthew no refund was issued and they would not give me a clear cut answer why the actual price was over double what they quoted. Furthermore a box was missing which has yet to be tracked down. When I called Matthew Wolf he said "well sounds like we did pretty good with only one box missing" what the hell?!?! when I got upset he said "if you're going to get angry than you an file a claim and get .60 cents per pound on what your dumb box is worth" To their credit Olga was very nice over the phone and did try to help us track down the missing box. (She did not know a box was missing even though I had told Matthew which tells me he didn't even tell anyone the box was missing).
Olga said we could file a claim and she would agree to the amount owed whatever it was since she didnt feel sorry we were blatantly lied when quoted. Unfortunately it's been a month and I still haven't heard anything regarding a check - we put 70 dollars down which I think is reasonable for two floor lamps (each around 35-40 dollars) and sentimental child's toys.
