The cost was well over a $1000.00 over the original quote for a start. The actual movers kept saying that they'd take care of our things, if we took care of them i.e. tip-wise! A bit like black mail. Not a great beginning!
We wrapped all the boxes ourselves and they wrapped the larger things. They must have wrapped poorly as we had a lot of damage even though we tipped them well. We followed Mike Bryant's advice and bought a mattress cover. They put it on. When we received the mattress delivery the cover was torn in multiple places and the mattress was dirty and had water stains. Thankfully even though our couch wrappings were torn as well, there wasn't any damage there. The headboard for our bed was in 6 pieces, a dining chair in 2. There were multiple nicks and dings in many other pieces. One box arrived destroyed and they put what was left in one of their boxes. No note or anything. The head mover when delivering, ripped the laminate of some shelves as he walked by and never even apologized.
To be honest, we should have looked over the insurance possibilities more closely but they really aren't spelled out until the movers arrive - not the best time to inventory every piece that you're shipping. We also are veteran movers, Mass to Montana, from Montana back to Mass and back and forth to Costa Rica. We've never experienced any damage from these other moves. Needless to say we would never recommend using this company. They are sloppy and careless with their estimate, and sloppy and careless with the way they treated our furniture.
