On June 25th, Shawn at Neighbors Moving & Storage called me in response to an internet search for moving companies that I had done. When I asked, he said they were a broker and he would had me a great mover, Roadway Moving in NY. They did an online inventory, and e-mailed me a binding estimate for an interstate move from GA to Utah with pick-up to be Aug. 13 or 14. I paid a deposit of $1969.50 that day. (I know, not the smartest move that I've ever made and somewhat embarrassing to say but I really hope it saves someone else from losing money) The contract stated that the balance of $4312.50 would be paid to the carrier at delivery. Shawn told me that I would receive a call 7-10 days before the move to confirm. I noticed there was a 7 business day cancellation policy, but I expected a call from them sometime between Aug. 1-3rd so I wasn't concerned. I should have been. I received no call so on Aug. 3rd I e-mailed Shawn to see why he hadn't called but of course, received no response. On Mon morning, Aug 6th, I phoned the company but was told that to confirm the move, the total amount had increased and I needed to pay another $700 deposit. I spoke with Shelly and Karl several times Monday and again on Tues. morning but they insisted that an additional deposit must be made. When Karl sent me a new 'binding estimate that had increased my balance by $1200. I told him to cancel the move. He said that now I was past the 7 day cancellation period and could not get my $1969. back. They deliberately waited until I couldn't cancel to raise the price. But I sent them all cancellations anyway on Tuesday afternoon. They called several times to try to get me to change my mind and even said they would go back to the original amount but I told them that I didn't trust them to raise it again at delivery. I thought the subject was closed. Well, on Sunday, I received a call from a driver who said he had come to GA from Miami to move me and wanted to know what time to pick up my stuff. He said he was an independent contractor and that Moving & Storage had dispatched him on Sat. morning to move me-4 DAYS after I cancelled. He tried his best to get me to let him come on and move me but I told him no, thanks. You should also know that 'Neighbors Moving & Storage' and 'Moving & Storage' in Pompano Beach, FL is the same company. Together, they have about 120 complaints filed with the Better Business Bureau. There is nothing trustworthy about them.
