Cross country move

Nationwide Relocation Services contacted me after I submitted an online inquiry. At first I was impressed with my contact person. After having several other moving companies to my home for estimates, I decided to go with Nationwide (the Broker) and their sub-contractor. Lissa, my contact person told me that I was saving money by not having to have someone come to my home. They were so experienced that my itemized inventory of my home would suffice. I would be able to save significantly. She was obviously good at building relationships, because she had me fooled for sure. She had told me how much people who used their sub-contractor in my area, loved them. I trusted her, and proceeded with my deposit. I was not a novice to moving. I had moved cross country before and had a wonderful company move me. Now it was the day the movers were to come...they never showed up!!! I called Lissa and she didn't call me back. Then I spoke with someone in her office who referred me to MBM Movers (the sub-contractor). I could never get in touch with the right person. Someone I spoke to, saw that I was on the schedule and said they should be there that day. It was now the middle of the afternoon...still a "no show". At 5:00PM, I received a call from someone in Lissa's office telling me they were still coming that day...REALLY, I asked? Who was he kidding. I had only one more day to get out as my buyers were moving in the following day. So the next morning, I got a call from Eric the driver, saying he'd be at my house in 1/2 hour. He finally came two hours later. The van was the most dilapidated thing I had ever seen. Eric had an attitude even though I remained calm and bought all of the guys lunch. I had packed my own things, but they were to provide boxes for my beds, the TV and a beveled glass table top. They didn't have any. I complained and some finally showed up at 5PM that day. The Flat Screen TV was never boxed. Mine was the last load on the truck and apparently the doors weren't secure. There was rain, and the boxes holding the mattresses got wet and the beds were ruined. There were scrapes on several pieces of furniture, a hole in a cane headboard, and a hole in the fabric of my $6,000 sofa not to mention, a have carved writing desk had part of one leg scraped off. I did have a friend direct the movers to put my things at a local storage company, because I was still finishing my work in North Carolina. My friend did not see that the boxes had gotten wet, and subsequently dried during the two weeks on the road. When I finally got to Calif., I discovered that there was a smell in the storage unit. When we moved the furniture (with a different moving company) to my new house, we discovered what had happened. My extra insurance did not cover it, due to it not being noticed at the time of delivery. That said, even though I had to pay for new beds, what I was really only upset about was the total lack of customer service, leaving me hanging and not knowing if I'd get out before my buyers pulled up with their moving van. I am thankful I planned to move a day early, or surely this would have been much worse. As I said, Lissa at Nationwide, and the people at MBM were totally void of any consideration or customer service not to mention, integrity. I have had several good movers, but these companies are as bad as it gets!!!!!
