First off, what I say on this review is in my own opinion. All the reviews you see about communication and problems associated with Nationwide and/or MovingCost.com with other moves is the same thing that I experienced. I kicked myself in the butt for not checking these guys out prior to hiring them. Lesson learned.
Lisa was very prompt and seemed to have it on the ball when I first spoke to her. I mentioned that the quote seemed a little low on boxes and that the truck we had used was a full size moving trailer. I also asked about the Not to Exceed amount and she said it was firm. After the deposit was given it all changed. Once they got my deposit and got close to the move date it just got to be one thing after another. Excuses, excuses, excuses. They did not want to give me the name of the moving company because it was undecided whom it was going to be two days before pick up. Same with the car.
Mistakes with incorrect move dates, wrong ship to zip code even after I faxed the correct address to them, car was shipped late and had to be left with a friend so that it could be picked up nearly two weeks late. A lot of faxes and a bunch of phone calls. Phone calls that were not always returned until after a few days. This happened with both Lisa and Cheryl. I finally had to dismiss Lisa and go directly with Cheryl after Lisa failed to put the correct ship to address and tried to say it was my idea that I wanted a date change so that they could be late because they had failed to find a carrier. I believe no one wanted to work with them. (No surprise)
Nationwide and/or movingcost.com offered to compensate me $100 dollars and told them stick it. The movers did not have an appliance dolly but had a regular dolly that had a flat tire. I had to rent a dolly for them at my expense. The driver and helper were very rude and spoke Arabic when they spoke to each other around my family. My refrigerator door was scratched which cost just under the deductible. They did offer to pay .60 on the dollar (what a joke).
The movers scratched my driveways at the pickup residence and at the ship to address. The truck they were driving did not have emergency brakes and required chalks to secure the truck from going down the hill.
The movers did not stack very tight and I demanded that they tighten the load up or they would not be able to get everything on. They just laughed and said, "We get it on, trust me" They forgot my child's bed headboard, kitchen table, riding lawnmower and a bunch of other stuff. Nationwide underestimated the size of the truck and I had to rent a u-haul trailer to pack the rest myself. I had to leave behind a play set because there was no more room on the truck. My riding lawnmower was strapped to the back of the truck on the lift table.
Nationwide underestimated the amount of boxes needed. If I had not boxed my own belongings with boxes that I had received from friends there would not had been enough. The movers tried to charge me for dish-packs that were half the size of dish-packs that I had received from friends. They conceded and gave me half off of their boxes.
This is a real instance and if you value your own piece of mind and do not like to be taken for a ride like I was, Please Please Please..Do not use this company!!!!! Go directly to a mover and not a relocation company that will come to your house and give an honest stick-to estimate.
