Nationwide is a broker. They do not have their own trucks. Here are the specifics of the poor rating.
1. Late - they were a day late in picking up the items and a week late in delivering them. We had to follow up with Nationwide and the actual carrier (Castle Harbor Marina Moving and Storage, Philly area).
2. Damaged items - Many expensive items were damaged totaling about $7000 worth of damage. You have to claim the damage when they deliver, and some damage was not noticed until after the fact.. We bought extra insurance, and there was a gotcha with the insurance (Travel Guard Inc.). They wanted you to fill out the form within a day and send it back. We had so much going on we didn't read the fine print about grouping items together. They basically take the grouped items and divide the payment amongst the grouped items. This was our fault, but a day to return the form is not enough time. Insurance did not cover the full damage.
3. Return calls - They were horrible with this. We had to keep calling them.
4. Transfer between trucks - The first truck unloaded into a warehouse only to be loaded on the same exact truck for shipment. This caused some water damage on furniture
5. Broker - They have no liability for the move.
We received quotes from other companies that were a little higher. I would have been better to pay a little more for a company that does their own work. The whole moving industry is a scam, and brokers are the worst to deal with. Find a local moving company that does Interstate moves rather than useless brokers.
