My need was to move a small amount of belongings from Central FL to Manhattan. I spent three days collecting several quotes along with educating myself as to what to beware of, the differences between brokers and actual movers, verifying info on protectyourmove.gov, and reading BBB grades as well as moving company review sites (such as this one).
I finally contracted with Nations Van Lines (corporate offices in Hollywood, FL). The representative I worked with, Tonya, was very patient with my apprehension and several phone calls with more questions. She was very prompt in emailing changes to my inventory list (all made BEFORE the day of the move) and updating the quote for the services. Tonya was nothing but helpful and willing to provide yet more information to this nervous consumer.
The day of the pick-up, I feared that something “new” would be added, or some “hidden” expense would appear. Nothing of the sort happened. By educating myself as to what the guidelines were and what the binding quote DID and DID NOT include, there were NO SURPRISES. The items I had packed, boxed and taped went on the truck without a problem. The furniture the movers wrapped in blankets and binding plastic went onto the truck without a problem. There was a slight misunderstanding as to whether the amount due that day was 40% of the balance AFTER my 10% contract deposit (what I had on hand in cash) or if it was 40% of the entire quote (what the driver believed it to be). No problem, the driver took my cash, and stated the balance would be due upon delivery in NYC.
I had expected the delivery time to be about 7 – 10 days after the pick-up. The delivery in NYC actually was 5 days later; earlier than I had been quoted. The movers brought everything in, unwrapped and assembled the furniture, called off the item and box numbers to me to determine that everything was delivered. Before leaving, they cleaned up all the wrapping materials. The only casualties were some plates and bowls I had packed without sufficient cushioning.
Thank you Tonya and Nations Van Lines for a job WELL DONE! When I have to reverse the process in a year, you will be the company I call.
