Blatantly misrepresented the price

We asked around about a move from NYC to Rochester. Moving & Relocation quoted us a price, in writing, of "about $1,200", plus packaging materials such as blankets and wardrobe boxes. We called several times to confirm the price. We were told verbally there was a flat rate of $1,200, but the emails kept saying "about $1,200." On the moving day, after half our boxes were in the truck, the driver informed us the move would cost THREE THOUSAND DOLLARS. However, he could kindly cut us a bargain - $2,900. He claimed he didn't know why the estimate was so low, they must have made a mistake about time or labor (we confirmed both several times before the move). When we tried calling Moving & Relocation, they confirmed (after about an hour of hemming and hawing) the move would indeed cost $3,000. When I threatened to sue and lodge a complaint with the BBB, I was put on the phone with a man who refused to identify himself. When I said I would not continue the conversation unless he gave me his name, he simply hung up on me. We canceled the move and had to use a more expensive (and more honest) moving company. Further action will be taken.
