Bait and Switch. Liars. Theives.
I spoke to Tom who gave me a very reasonable estimate. He told me that he would estimate the cubic footage of my order, and give me a 'binding estimate' XXXand that if I did not change the items on the list, my charges would not exceed his estimate by one penny.
I checked this site and read some awful reviews of the company - but because of Tom's kindness, I was reassured. He even told me that "moving companies often get bad reviews", but only those who are angry take the time to write. It was my own stupidity to agree to use them.
I moved ahead, hoping to be treated fairly. Next Tisha got involved, and she told me that the last time she moved, she had been ripped off and the company had stolen her entire shipment - and therefore, she was especially sensitive to customers' needs.
I gave them over a $1000 deposit.
The day of the move came. The crew showed up at 4:30 AM (who knows why) - and I was required to sign a lot of paper work and take a credit card imprint. After that, the driver looked around the apartment and after about 2 minutes, said "your stuff will take up more room on the truck XXXthis will cost you double the price - over $7000!"
I explained to him that Tom had promised that if I was moving only what was on the list, the price could not exceed the estimate. We exchanged differences of opinion, and wanting to avoid an argument, we agreed that I would call the office at 9Am, and he would return, and follow whatever plan I worked out with Tisha.
Well, I called at 9, 10 and 11. No answer XXXand I left messages. I called the 800 number to speak to Tom, who refused to get on the phone with me. At noon, I finally got Tisha and she said that the driver was now back in Brooklyn and would not be coming back. I sort of expected that and said to her that she should agree to return my deposit as no service was rendered. They didn't touch one thing, and failed to return as promised. "No," she said - your deposit is non-refundable. XXXyou will not ever get it back."
I registered complaints with the credit card company - and Tisha and Tom lied about the story every time. I worried that my story would not be understood. But finally, the dispute was settled in my favor, and the $1023.00 was returned to me.
These people are absolute liars and thieves. They should be put out of business ASAP. Each of them should have difficulty sleeping at night because of the pain they inflict on trusting people. Look at the other reviews - mine was not an isolated incident - but part of a pattern. You will be very sorry if you do business with them.
