The one thing we were most concerned about when we had a major move for my mother was that her move be on time so that we can fly her here and she could give notice for her apartment. When I spoke with the company "Move on Time" I specifically asked what is the condition for the date we chose. He said that they GUARANTEE the moving day but not the time of day! From past experiences with other movers, I decided to give it an extra day before her plane was scheduled to leave. We were quoted an estimate of which everything was done over the internet and phone. Many experts will tell you, it is best to have a company give you an estimate in person after they have seen the items. Now I can see why! Initially when taking the order and up till we gave a deposit, we were able to reach them. Unfortunately, things deteriorated from there. Prior to the day, I called to confirm and was told the same thing, they guarantee the day. Sure enough on moving day, no one appeared. I had to make repeated calls to the company only to be told the name of the mover they contracted with. When I called them and was thoroughly upset that they told me it wouldn't be till the next day, I found that their policy was to give a 2 day window and they did not guarantee the moving day. They didn't know why I was told that in the first place. I will say that the movers when they showed were efficient and customer service for the mover was helpful. But Move on Time pretty much left us on our own to deal with the mover from there. In addition, the total amount due ended up being an extra $500. Then our next "guaranteed" delivery for the move ended up being delayed 2 weeks! SO we had my mom stay with us and she had already signed a new lease here so the apartment was vacant until the move! Waisted 2 weeks of rent! When they did arrive, the mover was not real enthusiastic and we noted a busted microwave of which it took 6 months to even get a tiny fraction of what it costs back. Long story short, I would never recommend a contractor. Go straight to the moving company as they have their own rules and fees. The contractor can make empty promises just to get your business and pocket some money in the meantime. My biggest worry was getting the movers to show up on time and was promised something that could not be delivered. I am glad this experience is behind us as it has been about a year now, but I wanted to make sure to warn others about it! Also, I meant to add that when we complained to the manager, he said there was nothing they could do to alleviate or compensate us for the headache. Once again, tough luck!
