Don't be taken in by the nice, helpful sales people who arrange your move!
The move happened on July 15, today is August 22 - STILL NO DESK! 6 boxes remain unpacked 5 weeks later because there isn't any place to put the DESK stuff.
The actual movers on both ends were GREAT.
The people I dealt with in Boston (the sub contractor MiniMoves uses) were HORRIBLE. He tried to charge me a $200 premium to get a parking permit (Google parking permits and use one of the services - they were great, $75, mover sub wanted $280!) (MiniMoves never mentioned the need for a parking permit, this was a last minute, unwelcome surprise/fee). The sub told me MiniMoves wasn't charging nearly enough for the 4 flights of stairs and he would have charged over $300 more. Soooo, I was VERY worried when move day came that it would be a nightmare. It wasn't. Okay, the guy that owns the business and had already proven to be a jerk told me three times the morning of the move the guys would be there by 9am and then after 4 more calls and they arrived at 1pm - he was just playing with me because I complained to MiniMoves that he was a jerk when scheduling the move and told them he was trying to gouge me.
The actual movers in Boston were terrific - personable, efficient, careful. Same on the other end.
But, at destination, I was checking off my list and they were checking off their list and their manifest showed that item #31 was never a part of the shipment. In other words - MiniMoves sent the shipment with a document that revealed that an entire piece of the move wasn't on the truck. WHAT KIND OF QUALITY CONTROL IS THAT??? So, they ship the move without an entire piece of furniture. This was a large piece of glass that I paid way extra to have packed and shipped. I spent over an hour on the phone arranging this move and discussing whether I should pay to move this glass (the desk) because I could replace it at the destination for $80. But, for a few dollars more, for someone to bring it to the second floor at destination and unpack it was worth the extra and not have to dispose of it from the 4th floor Boston apartment. Unfortunately - after all this angst and decision making - it NEVER arrived. I tried to make it easy for the claims department - even sent them the URL for the item at IKEA - order it and ship it to me. I'll carry it upstairs, unpack it and set it up. Nope, weeks later and NOTHING! No word from them, I've filed the claim, I've talked to customer service - no satisfaction. What a waste of money, time, effort. Not to mention, the 6 unpacked boxes. Soooo disappointed.
Don't use this company. Who ships an entire shipment when one of only 6 pieces of furniture were missing???? (the rest were boxes)
