According to their quote, 3584 lbs. should have been moved, which at $0.48 per lbs comes down to $1720.32. This estimate is sufficiently precise, as the actual weight was 3881 lbs.
So, they sent me this estimate, received my blessing in form of deposit of $460 and started loading my belongings onto their truck.
Once they finish, I received a call from their "dispatcher" Mike who told me that I have a significant overweight and the price of moving will be now $2800.
Then I spoke with Josh - the person who prepared this quote and with their Customer Service - they were all adamant that due to significant overweight I should pay $2800. In the end they made a concession to their "valued customer" and lowered the sum of extortion to $2500. That was their last word. I tried to come up with various alternative schemes to verify the actual [over]weight - but whatever I suggested, they would invariably come up with alternative counter scheme whereby I would have to pay $2500.
Eventually they stopped responding to my calls. When I realized they will not release my stuff for less than $2500, I called them up and left a message that I agree to pay it.
Only then they proceeded with actual moving.
