Unethical

On Satrurday, May 21, 2011, my fiance and I moved from Germantown, Maryland to Damascus, Maryland. I worked with a salesman, Max, to set up movers, and throughout our emails, we came up with an approximate price of $375.00. This price came from the inventory list we submitted and from the size of the apartment. On that day of the move, we were charged DOUBLE the price and given a bill that was over $800.00. We were nickled and dimed on bed covers, sofa wrapping, tape, etc. My disappointment comes with the inventory list I submitted to Max several weeks before the move (see below). Max knew what we were having moved, yet did not put the cost of extra materials into his total moving rate that he submitted to me (see below). In addition, Max knew the items in the house, yet estimated 4 hours for the move. It took 4 hours to pack up the truck. The overall move lasted from 8 am until at least 2 pm. A knowledgeable salesman should be able to make a more reliable estimate. I find it unethical for a business to grossly misquote a customer and then wait until the moving date AND until the movers have begun moving boxes to share the true cost. My fiance and I were put in a position in which we HAD to pay the money because your business misrepresented itself and lied. We trusted your business. I would never believe that on the day of our move, one day before our lease was up at my old apartment, I would be more or less robbed of over $400.00 because we were put in a lose-lose situation by Metro Van Lines. The Better Business Bureau's motto is "Start with Trust." I feel that I may need to contact the Better Business Bureau and file a complaint if we cannot come up with a resolution. I should have been charged $375.00 only. Instead, I gave a $75.00 deposit and paid over $800.00. Our moved cost us over $900.00. This is unacceptable.
