Prior to choosing a mover I tried to do a great job on checking each one that bid on my move out of Florida. I ended up picking Low Country Van Lines. I thought I had made a good choice since the reviews were mixed but seemed better than most of the others. I would suggest that anyone moving should avoid this company and run in the other direction. They like most of the small firms are unscrupulous and it is better to go with a more expensive firm like United, Allied or Mayflower since they at least will give you better service for the price that you will end up paying a firm like Low Country Van Lines. In the end they (Allied, United, or Mayflower) will probably be less expensive and you will have fewer headaches. My original contract was for $1883. It was stated in the contract that the weight estimated was approximately 5000 lbs. In the contract that translated to .38 a pound and if that weight was different then the price would be adjusted. I underestimated the weight of my things and was told I would have to pay the difference. I thought that fair until I was charged at the rate of .57 a pound for the overage poundage. So my moved cost me over $4200. Additionally, I had started a new job in my new location and was told taking time off was not permitted. Both Keith, the sales manager and Chris, another rep of the company, assured me weekend delivery since I made it clear to them that I could not accept weekday delivery. It went from a Saturday to a Sunday drop off date. Then when Sunday came, an independent carrier, that they had sent my things to, called to inform me that drop off would be Monday. After arguing with him, then talking to that harpy, Yolanda from Low Country, I was given no choice but to plead with my employer to take a few hours off Monday morning or face additional cost starting at $500. If you chose to do business with these RIP OFF ARTIST, be sure to get everything in writing to include pound price for overage charges and recourse for failure to honor drop off terms and even then be sure to go over your contract before pick up as Chris was trying to add fees that were either waived on the contract or did not apply. Additionally, I waited to submit this complaint since I had not only many broken items but also a number of missing items once I began unpacking. Trying to recover the loss through their insurance has also been an amazing headache with $1000+ in damages and the most recent rejected settlement of $129! If you are reading this, save yourself the headaches and DON’T CONTRACT WITH THESE CROOKS!!!!! I will be forwarding complaints to the BBB, Florida Consumer Affairs and the Attorney General of Florida. Since Low Country has a way of dismissing complaints as fake individuals or other firms trying to discredit them…I am including my email for anyone that wants to verify my experience.
