Low Cost Moving

Low Cost moving is totally dishonest. I signed with them to move my stuff from CA to TX for $1671. Before signing the contract, I gave exact list of my stuff along with dimensions. But my final cost turned out to be $2800. First, they delayed the pick up by one day on the morning of the move. I called next day to learn that they can't pick up on the second day too. They finally agreed to pick only after I told them that my flight tickets are already booked and that they MUST pick up my stuff immediately. They finally arrived for pick up but at 11pm in the night. The first thing the pick guy said is that the cost will be $2900 as he estimated the weight to be 6000 pounds by visual inspection but offered a final price of $2500. What can I do in the middle of the night other than accepting the price increase? The stuff arrived on time in TX. They try every trick in the trade to extract additional money. One of them is to claim that the truck cannot be pulled up next to the apartment/home citing difficulty with maneuvering big truck inside apartment complex. The driver demanded additional $300 for long carry, otherwise stuff cannot be unloaded. I had no choice but to pay that. Few days after that, I saw other moving companies pull as big trucks past my apartment inside the complex. I have a picture of those trucks next to my apartment to prove my assertion. Overall, Low Cost Moving is very unethical in its business dealings. Moving the pickup dates at their will was very stressful. My recommendation for folks planning to move:
1. Negotiate your contract to be based on weight in lbs. Only weight can be verified. Stay away from volume based contract
2. Demand that the truck be weighed before and after the move
3. Be clear on the additional costs related to things such as long carry
I really suspect all good reviews for Low Cost Moving on this site may not be legitimate.
