The move was done professionally and on time, and I have no complaints about the move or the actual movers (jobbed out to another company - Air-1 Moving and Storage - not Great American Van Lines). They were hard working and very nice.
My complaint is with Great American's so-called "total moving estimate" of $1250. AFTER my furniture was picked up, I was told that I'd have to pay $250 extra for a "shuttle" because the semi transporting the furniture across the country wouldn't be able to get down my street.
After I called to complain to them about this deception, I was told it wasn't deceptive because below the "total moving estimate" was an item that read "Shuttle Service - Minimum charge of $200 for truck rental + additional $65.00 per 100 cu.ft. or 700 Lbs."
Now, I'm not saying their prices are unreasonable but I do object to how Great American buried this as bullet point 30 in a list of 40 or so items. If they knew that a smaller truck ("shuttle") would be needed for delivery, it should have been included in the "total moving estimate."
From a business perspective, why not be upfront in including everything in the "total moving estimate"?
