On November 18, 2011 I hired Great American Van Lines Inc. to relocate me from Philadelphia PA to Charlotte NC. I was deceived in believing the company was reputable and had A one rating with the BBB with no complaints. I was to have my things moved on Nov. 28th at the Philadelphia address between 11am - 1pm and delivery of my household goods on November 30, 2011. The amount of service was to be 1598.88. However, I ended up paying a whooping 3000.00 because of the company’s unlawful and deceptive practices.
The moving company did not show until 7:00pm the next day. In addition, the moving company came unprepared by not having the proper tools to disassemble my bed frame. Second, there were other families’ household goods in the truck prior which prevented me from taking all of my items. The other family’s household goods on the truck were placed on the curb and sidewalk because there wasn’t enough room for my things. I asked to be given the total before loading of the truck and was told I had to wait until they finished loading. I also asked for proof of weight of my goods and an explanation of forms given that was given to me blank and highlighted by the moving company. I was interrupted because of an argument the driver started to have with one of the workers which escalated outside of my home. The worker refused to help load the truck and sat outside in the company’s truck for the remanding duration of the moving job. I asked the driver again about sections in the contract which I left blank and was told by the driver not to worry about them, some of the sections did not apply to me. Later I discovered my signature had been forged on the sections I refused to sign. Last, my items were not delivered until December 1, 2011 which caused me to have to reschedule appointments, service connections for my new home. Some of my items were broken and damage along with caching a worker throwing my boxes off the truck. Another argument began with the worker and driver outside which was an embarrassment. I have tried to contact the company’s Management even up to now and have only received an email stating to address my concerns with their claims department. How can Great American Van Lines Inc. pride themselves of being about the customer’s satisfaction and stress free when the company’s representatives lie, deceive and victimize. I want to get the word out about this moving company and spare another victim of the heartache of which I have endured. Even now, I have to hire an attorney to get this situation resolved.
