We hired Great Amercian Moving & Storage to move our belongings to our new home about 15 minutes away. It took the movers 5-1/2 hours to load a very small 2 bedroom house. We later realized that this was intentional in order to keep the clock ticking. I had previously boxed and taped everything up, but for some reason the movers decided to re-tape absolutely everything about twenty more times. Once at the new house, my fiancé was advised that we would need to pay $1,416.00 in order to receive our belongings... WHAT!?! How did a quote go from $350 to $1,416!?! Remarkably enough XXXwhat had taken the movers 5-1/2 hours to load, took merely 2 hours to unload. The movers did not leave any receipt with us or copy of the contract... they did not reassemble our furniture as their quote promised nor did they wait around so my fiancé could check to make sure we inspected, accounted for all items and checked to make sure nothing was damaged. Infact, the movers drove off in their truck without even announcing they were leaving. It is so disgusting that companies would rather rip someone off, take the money and run XXXrather than do the right thing. The saying customer service is dead is absolutely correct and great American Moving & Storage has just solidified that. Stay clear of this company! I will never hire a moving company again that charges by the hour.
