My sales guy, Paul, was incredibly nice. He quoted me just over $2k for the move and I expected it to go up because I had ten more boxes than I thought I would have at pick up time. I booked about 1.5 months in advance. I specifically asked questions regarding logistics and was told this company did NOT contract out and used trucks for the actual move. What I find out when the two movers show up in IL, in street clothes and fairly unprofessional, is that my actual total is almost double - $3,850+. He says it's because my quote did not include many items and the packing job for the large, antique items were quoted incorrectly. How is this MY fault? Don't companies typically honor THEIR pricing mistakes? I was moving on a budget and made sure to ask a million questions. They ended up even charging me $85 for TAPE that they went nuts on - they re-taped a lot of my stuff, even though they didn't need it. When my stuff is delivered in CA, the company that delivered was much more professional, 4 guys in company tees but this is when all the truth comes out. They tell me they are sub contractors, that my stuff came via freight train instead of 18 wheeler truck. That my stuff probably made at least 5 stops and changed hands that many times during it's trip (pick up, warehouse, train, warehouse, truck, me)- instead of the 3 I was told (pick up, big truck, me). I am missing at least 2 boxes that I can account for, and a floor lamp. My large antique china cabinet that they told me not to pack myself so it would be insured under them, is broken on three sides - the glass is smashed. Half of my boxes are very smashed up, fragile stickers were clearly useless here. Unpacking those fragile boxes I had several broken glass items but because these were packed by me (yes, I used a lot of bubble wrap), they are not covered. I have filed a claim online. I'm not expecting much or in any timely fashion but that is yet to be seen. The move took 20 days total, I called for an update on roughly day 10 and received NO information. I would never use this moving company again, nor would I recommend them to anyway.
