We hired Elite Moving & Storage to move our belongings from California to Illinois. There were several items (filing cabinet, curtain rod, trash can) that the movers said they would wrap in moving blankets to protect, but they didn't because these items arrived in Illinois damaged. We also had a very expensive art print mounted on a wooden frame that arrived broken in half. This is a heavy duty frame that was securely packed, so obviously they did not handle our belongings with care.
We filed a claim for $700 and they offered us $117 (their policy is $0.60/pound for damaged items). Now, they tell us our options are to go through arbitration (which would cost us more money) or they could give us $200. These are not professional movers. I understand their policy if items I packed in boxes were broken, but every item that I packed was in perfect condition. So, basically they just threw our belongings in a truck with zero disregard.
