Late delivery, damaged goods, damaged walls in home, cost 41% higher than their original estimate, failure to return phone calls sums up our experience with Dimension.
We were promised delivery 2 days after our items were picked up.
Pick up Aug 29
Delivery Promised: Aug 31
Delivery 1: Sep 4
Delivery 2: Oct 3
The truck Dimension sent to pick up our items was too small. Dimension then waffled on letting us know how they planned to remedy the problem and left us wondering when/if our items would be delivered for days. On the date the items were due to be delivered we learned (only after repeated phone calls) that their larger truck was “being repaired” and they didn’t know when our items would arrive. The onus was on us to call repeatedly to try to get an answer. We weren’t informed of the new delivery time until the afternoon before a portion of the shipment finally arrived. The driver didn’t arrive until after 3pm and had only one person to help him to unload. As they moved things into the house they damaged walls. They finally left around 10pm.
The driver brought 2 tickets presumably showing the weight of the goods we were moving. The truck number didn’t match that of the truck that delivered the items, so they were useless as a means of verification. This was important because Dimension had originally estimated the weight of our shipment to be 10,066 lbs. and claimed that the actual weight was 12,340, so our moving expense was significantly higher. Two other moving companies that we considered estimated the total weight around 10,000 lbs, so the 12,340 number is suspect. Dimension’s bill was also inflated due to a $700+ charge for packing materials, which was shocking since they only packed large items (TV, sofa, etc.). Their original estimated charges were $4328; our actual expense was $6115 (41% higher).
The driver asked me to sign off on a complete delivery and didn’t seem to know that not everything was being delivered at that time. He also mentioned it was pouring rain as he drove over the mountain pass from California to Oregon, significant since Dimension had strapped our mattresses to the outside of the truck.
The shipment wasn’t completed until October 3. During the month of September we tried to get them to commit to a delivery time. First we were told September 10th. The truck never arrived, nor did anyone call us to explain. Thereafter, we were not given another delivery date, despite repeated phone calls to them. A truck showed up on October 3, without prior notification. I arrived home to find a truck waiting outside my house. The driver had been sitting there a while and was about to leave.
Many items were damaged by Dimension; these included both goods packed by Dimension, as well as those items we packed. Likely this was because our goods were crammed into the truck in their failed attempt to fit it all in. I was outraged to see how tightly the truck was packed. For example boxes, etc were piled on top of my $3,300 Elliptical Trainer that I bought just a few months back. After the move, it no longer looks new as Dimension’s careless handling left it covered with scratches.
Save yourself a lot of headaches and go with another moving company. In retrospect, we would have been better off paying more to hire someone competent.
