This company gave me an estimate of $714 to move my 88 year old in-laws from the San Francisco Bay Area to Fresno (180 miles). Perry from dimension assured me that the quote they gave me would be all that I would have to pay except for the boxes that they may have to use to wrap various items. In other words the price might go up to $800-850 with boxes and that would be all. He assured me that the cost of the two movers, the truck, gas and their return trip was covered in his estimate. We were only moving a 1,000 sq ft, 2 bdrm condo and then only part of the contents since they were moving to a smaller unit in a retirement home.
When they arrived at my in-laws condo to start packing the estimate almost a thousand dollars more that the original estimate and then it went up again when they arrived at the destination. The final price was $1,995. By this time it was now almost 10:00 PM and they had not unloaded a thing until I paid them in cash (not a check which I was told was OK). They told me that either I paid or they would return to the Bay area and then store everything until Dimension and I could resolve the issue. There would then be stroage fees and more transportation fees from the Bay area to Fresno. They had me over a barrel since my in-laws had everything they owned in the truck. We did have a suitcase with two days worth of clothes and their medicines with us.
I would not have had a problem with the final cost of $1,995 if they were just upfront and stated they could not give me and exact figure but at least a range from $1,500 to $2,000. At least they would have tried their best to be honest. They had to know from the very beginning that there was no way they could do this for the original estimate. They gave any quote they could to get the job and I wish that I was tougher and not give in to their unscrupulous demands.
