We contacted DSL Movers of Highland Hills, NY, on a recommendation of the person who transported our classic cars. He was awesome, so we took his word on the recommendation. Also, we found nothing online negative towards DSL Movers. However, we found them to be not completely honest and they had no qualms about it.
Long story short: We contracted with the movers $8500 to move our entire house of belongings from Upstate NY to Tampa, FL...result...OUR ITEMS THAT DIDN'T FIT ON THE SMALLER TRUCK THEY LEASED, ARE STILL IN NY! We found them to be dishonest and would say to anyone out there considering them...DO NOT DSL MOVERS! They seem like nice people, but they will screw you with no apologies.
We went through the estimating process, the wife of the couple came to our home and looked through everything, and as a matter of fact, we got rid of some items between the time of the estimate and moving day. We also agreed to pay her $600 for 2 people for 4 hours to come pack a couple of days before the move. Before she came up, she changed the price to $650 to pay for her gas (geesh, wasn't that in the original price?). The day she came up, she and another packer were there for just 3 hours, and they were politely out the door.
On moving day, the mover shows up with a truck smaller than the one we thought we were getting, a 20 ft, instead of a 26 ft truck. Needless to say, not all of our items fit on the smaller truck. So we have another cube of items sitting in NY. The mover would not budge when we tried to get him to pull a U-Haul trailer behind his moving truck. We would pay for the rental on the trailer. He wanted more money to pay for the extra gas. They were slightly apologetic, but said to us, "It's not an exact science" when estimating the amount of space (size of truck) to lease for the move. Aren't they supposed to be the experts?!?!?! They want to charge us another $5,500 to bring down the rest of our belongings sitting in our garage in NY. Needless to say, we won't be using them again, and we recommend that you don't either.
