This company was a total rip-off. I contracted with Cross Country Movers who then contracted out to different companies. The movers didn't come until 9:00 at night. They had to go to another location to pick up more furniture. It took them 1 1/2 hour to go 40 minutes away. We were there in 40 minutes. After they loaded the other furniture we were told the 50% amount I owed at this time was much more than quoted. The company had grossly underestimated the amount of space in the truck for the furniture so they were charging more. Also, they didn't except personal checks. In the quote it said "personal check, cashier's check or money order. Credit cards an additional 4% processing fee". At 1:00 in the morning it is hard to get cash, and they wanted to charge a 6% processing fee. After a discussion the charge was back down to 4%. Apparently, the day of moving, after everything is packed up, they sent another quote changing the terms of payment. The company that picked up the furniture then took it to be loaded into a cross country truck. I was told I would be notified when that truck was on its way to my new location in North Dakota. I wasn't notified until it was almost there. When this truck did arrive I was told it would be there at noon, then 3:00pm and it finally arrived at 5:00pm. They charged more for having to go more than 75 feet from the truck and from the elevator.
My best advice, is only contract with a moving company that comes to your location and actually sees what you are moving. My quote was for $3250, the actual cost was closer to $5600 after all their additional charges. NEVER use this company.
