Cross Country Movers

to start : the online and over the phone service i received from cross country movers was fairly good service, my case manager was prompt at returning calls and answering questions. the problem i had was with the movers themselves and the delivery condition of my items.
cross country movers hired a budget truck and drivers to do the pick up and delivery- this is normal for moving companies
as per company contract i has a two day reserved time that the movers could arrive in- they were a day late. and on top of that when talking to dispatch and the driver himself on time frames they were about an hour late from when i was told to expect them. the movers that arrived were very unprofessional, not respecting me or my property. they assumed i was a child, as i had another family member paying the costs of the move for me and treated me as such - although i am the holder of the contract and have been a legal adult for 6 years - at time of this review i am 24.
while loading my items for delivery one of the movers managed to smash a light fixture in the apartment. it was only after my roommate and i were talking about the cost of replacement and the apartments maintenance needing to come in did the mover offer to give me cash to cover the light- which i declined.
the movers packed my items onto the truck with very little apparent care for the contents of the boxes. i had two boxes marked as glass or fragile, and asked they be handled with care. i was assured they would arrive safe.
delivery date to my home in Florida was set to be any time within a week of pickup - Now they were already a day late for pickup so the drop off date was moved back. they still arrived eight (8) days after pickup in Kansas to drop my items off in Florida. again, a minor thing, as dispatch was wonderful in keeping me up to date with all delays.
my boxes were all damaged. many were smashed and looked crumpled. one of my boxes that had been marked GLASS was almost completely in pieces. i had sent them off with a bookcase. as the unloaded it from the truck i noticed it was now in two pieces broken horizontally. a solid wood drop leaf table i had shipped had an entire half broken causing one side leg to come off completely. my computer desk has a structurally damaging crack in it.
on top of the broken items the movers were very disrespectful of my property, tossing boxes to each other or doping them off the truck to the ground at times.
the movers being late for pickup was an annoyance, treating me as a uninformed child was rude and hurtful, but disrespecting my things, my life, that i was intrusting and paying them to ship safely to my home is just unacceptable. i understand that what they were moving was just boxes and just things but these items were my things important to me for my own reasons. the large items i own in life were mostly destroyed or damaged. items i had to work for, and items that are irreplaceable and full of memories, that were given to me by family members.
if it hadn't been for the excessive damage i could have overlooked the unprofessional attitudes and complete disrespect. the reason i could have overlooked all of that is because the dispatchers and actual company did such a good job trying to make sure everything went smoothly.
