This was the worst experience imaginable. I looked at the Yellow Pages reviews for Colonial and they seemed mostly positive. Is it possible to manipulate those? All reviews on other sites seemed to reflect our disaster.
This company subcontracts your move. The outfit they hired for our move was totally unprofessional. We were told to expect them Monday morning, then Monday afternoon, then tues am, then Tuesday afternoon, and they finally dragged in at dusk Tuesday night. Two guys in a beat up old truck. They brought no packing supplies even though we had been charged hundreds for special packing. They loaded until one am then left the job, saying they will return at 7 am. Of course they didn't show until 9:30 am. Our house closing was at 10:30 but they didn't finish until 1pm. We were exhausted and our nerves frayed, but the best was yet to come.
Our move was only 300 miles, so we expected our stuff to be delivered the next day. Nope. Same deal, we kept getting promises of delivery in a few hours, but it didn't arrive until four days later,Sunday night, 7 pm. They said six guys would unload it in just a few hours. In reality, two guys came to unload it.
Then another surprise, the load looked different now, like it had been all shaken up. The guys admitted they needed the truck, so our stuff was unloaded and tossed back in. Things were broken, scratched up and just lost. Wardrobe boxes were stacked upside down. What a mess!
Colonial has admitted it was a horrible job and offered an insulting settlement of $50 if I would sign a confidentiality agreement. Here's the thing; Colonial added no value to the whole process, just took a lot of the money for themselves. Do yourself a favor, hire some college kids and save thousands and get it done on time.
