One of the worst moving experiences

I could not recommend this company to family, a friend or even a stranger for that matter.
I move every couple of years and in this move, I only had boxes of stuff. The initial contact guy is very friendly, but once they have you, that's where everything quickly goes downhill. Customer service is horrible at getting back to you and providing answers (days or weeks with out communication - or you'll just be transferred around and around), the sub-contractor movers try to pull EVERY SCAM that is out there (e.g. quoting you low and then tripling the amount) and then you are working on their time or they will charge you more fees (e.g., "we're coming tomorrow" on a holiday weekend, otherwise it's going to cost you $650 to hold your 40 boxes in storage). I have over 23 pages of notes working with this company.
If you are to use them. I would recommend the following -
- be prepared to wait hours on moving day (they showed up with a Budget rental truck)
- buy NEW moving boxes so you know the exact cubic footage (they will try to tell you different and double or even triple the price - had to get them to re-measure my stuff)
- tell you rules that aren't in your contract (e.g. a flight of steps for them is only 10 steps - no where is this written)
- have all the receipts for the stuff you have (who has that? but you will need it for claims)
- have an open schedule so that you are there when they demand timing (or you will pay a hefty fee)
- be prepared for some damage (your stuff will take up space and they will pack it in like tetris)
- don't let them box stuff (they put all my paintings/art in one box and all of it was crushed) - they will ruin everything they box or not even put it in boxes
The NYC sub-contractor was worse to deal with than the Portland one.
Overall it was a terrible moving experience and I can't believe I gave them my money.
