Classic Moving Services provided a moving estimate of $5,000 for a move from Florida to Manhattan based upon a list of furniture and a specified number of boxes (in the middle of the range of two other providers and roughly what I paid on my prior move from NYC to Florida). They showed up on time, but after loading furniture, I was informed that I was 300 cubic feet over the 500 cubic feet they had estimated (despite matching the list of furniture and number of boxes in estimate). They charged me on the overage at a rate 150% of that specified in my estimate.
Upon delivery (one day late), I was informed that there would be an additional surcharge based upon shuttle service into Manhattan, despite the fact that I made it clear at the time of the estimate that an 18 wheeler would not be able to deliver into Manhattan.
Yes, the extra charges were buried in the fine print of the contract, but paying a total of $8,424 for a job that was estimated at $5,000 is outrageous! Be warned and careful regarding any estimate from Classic Moving Services!
