We are really disappointed in the service we received from Capital Moving Services, who moved some of our household items from Vancouver to Montreal. Although Elena (the main contact in the office) is charming and reasonable, things went quickly downhill as soon as we'd booked our move. There were three main problems:
1. Shady ripoff tactics - the movers who arrived to pick up our goods claimed they could not get close to our house with their van, so they'd have to do a 'long carry'. Of course they added a hefty fee for this, which we didn't discover until later. Do not fall for this! They tried it again on delivery (rather pathetically, since access is easy and on-street parking plentiful). They also tried to charge extra for stairs, even though our quote contained assurances that the stairs were included.
2. So much damage - many of our goods were so damaged in transit that we can no longer use them. One leg of our armchair was completely broken off, electrical components were cracked, and a table (which survived 50 years in my grandmother's kitchen completely unscathed) was scratched and chipped beyond belief. This is despite reassuring references to 'careful wrapping in blankets' in the quote. The movers also used a horrible sticky tape on most items - this is impossible to remove without damaging surfaces, particularly wooden ones.
3. Cost - loads of hidden fees and charges (e.g. the ridiculous 'long carry', warehouse 'handling', even a charge to use the scale!) inflated our bill from $500 to $758 - an increase of more than 50%.
Just avoid!!
