A Moving Nightmare by BOSTON QUALITY MOVERS

We hired BOSTON QUALITY MOVERS to move our 2 BR apartment furniture to S. Francisco from Massachusetts. Obviously, we weren't as careful and knowledgeable as we should've been when it came to choosing a moving company. Their initial quote for $2100 seemed the most economical among a few other company quotes. And they promised to deliver within 3 weeks. We packed everything ourselves carefully and sealed the boxes. They showed up in the morning an hour late. Three guys with an attitude and a look of a "SanQuentin prison inmate" loaded the furniture and the nightmare began!!! They inflated the price to $4600 and stated that we had more stuff than what they initially quoted for. Which was an 1100sqf 2Br apartment. And, let me tell you, we don't have many things. For instance we only had a futon in our livingroom. Nothing even close to one of those big livingroom sets. This is a very common way movers use to trick people into hiring them by giving low quotes. We couldn't argue with it and we had to agree with the price. We had no other choice. Our furniture was being held hostage at that point. And we had to get going. We flew to San Francisco and called the company after two weeks to see where they were at as far as delivery. Boy!!! All kinds of lies!!! It took them FOUR FULL WEEKS to finally deliver our furniture. Except it was not Boston Quality Movers who showed up at the door. It was a different company called SWIFT out of San Jose, CA. Apparently they were hired by Boston Q.M. as contractors without our permission or agreement. So, this is what we'd found out. After picking up our goods, they unloaded them at a storage faciity for some time. Reloaded on a different truck in route CA. Unloaded again in San Jose, CA. And reloaded for final delivery. In other words our stuff was terribly abused by being thrown around again and again! As they started bringing the furniture in...what a horrendous scene!!? It looked like the whole truck was spilled out on a highway during transportation. Every single thing is either broken, gauged or scratched...light fixtures, kitchenware, chairs, armoire legs, missing vacuum components, amplifier knobs, gouged guitar cases so on...you name it. The force it must have required to cause some of the damage is unbelievable. I have PHOTOS of everything and I'll be glad to email it to anyone who's interested. We have nothing nice left at home anymore!! Except the stuff we've bought new. I couldn't believe what I was seeing! And the things just got worse when I realized that one of my very expensive guitars was missing with its case. As you might have guessed neither company took any responsibility for anything and yet they blamed eachother. Finally Swift movers left in a hurry without assemling the futon and the bed, which was provided for in the agreement. My guitar was found a week later by the San Jose Police Department...it was clearly stolen! Current laws prevent consumers from taking legal actions towards moving companies - a 100+ year old law passed by Congress to standardize liabilty has been perverted by the moving companies and actually prevents any recovery for damages - even if they were intentional! There is absolutely nothing we could do but to suck it up. If any one out there has better legal advice please contact me. This is the worst experience of any kind that I had to deal with. BEWARE!!!!!!
