One Week prior to hiring the services of Borup & Sons moving company, we had contracted with another company (over the phone) from (Hackensack, NJ) who had a slightly lower hourly rate but did not come by to provide us with an Estimate (we found them on Craigslist). On the phone they claimed they would charge just the hourly rate and no extra charges. They arrived 4 hours late for a local move (Expected 10 am, came by at 2.15 pm because they got 'delayed' at another job) and then started quoting us additional charges. The paperwork they gave us had no License Number and they told us the stuff was insured for less than what we know the law is - at least for NJ. We were furious at the delay anyway so we refused and they mouthed off curses and left. Very Unprofessional. I recommend not to go with those listed on Craigslist.
We decided to only call officially listed movers and called 3 companies. Borup & Sons was the first to come and give us the quote, the other two came by a day later. All quotes were comparable by an hourly rate but the estimated moving time varied from 5 to 8 hours ( moving stuff from a 2 bedroom condo to a Garage & Shed ). I asked all 3 for a Flat price with no surprises for me and two of them were in the same range so we decided to go with the first one - Borup and Sons and Called them
I asked if they were available 2 days later for the move and they were. They asked me for a $100 deposit and payment of the rest on Loading the truck from my house on the agreed moving day. I was hesitant to agree with this due to the prior experience and the horror stories I have read on the internet but I decided to proceed anyway since I had a proper quote on a contract with a license number with all terms written and signed.
They gave us an estimated pickup time of 9-10 am on the moving day and were here promptly at 9.15. Between the 3 guys, they moved all our stuff carefully down over the next 2.5 hrs. They arranged and protected everything carefully in their truck during this process. At the end of this loading, I paid the rest of the bill and they said they would meet me at the destination in about an hour since they wanted to stop and grab a bite to eat.
I took a 'No Trucks Allowed' shorter route to the destination but stopped by for a sandwich. They reached in about 40 mins - even before me. Over the next hour they asked me for each item if it goes into the garage, shed or home and carefully moved everything to the right places and arranged them there to fit perfectly. IN some cases we asked them to rearrange or move furniture items to another location and they did so without any fuss and very professionally.
The entire process went smoothly to my relief so I would highly recommend Borup & Sons for any Local Moves in NJ/NY. Im not sure if they do interstate moves though.
