DETAIL
• I contacted Plymouth Rock after making inquires for a potential move of inexpensive goods from Pa to Fl. (Recorded calls you can verify)
• I spoke with a sales person named Ron. (Recorded calls you can verify)
• I assured him that I had more than two 26 ft trucks worth of material, but that the goods were worth no more than $6000 to me and if the cost would be more, I would simply not ship them. (Recorded calls you can verify)
• After more than a half dozen phone calls, I was given a price a few thousand dollars over the $6000 number and I declined the service. (Recorded calls you can verify)
• After several more working phone sessions I was given a price of $6100 and assured that I would pay no more. I explained my concern of being charged more because Ron seemed to come back to the possibilities that the load would fit on one 26 footer. I assured him that i had moved the load enough times to know it was going to be nearly impossible to fit on two 26 ft trucks. (Recorded calls you can verify)
• After explaining that I had some past experience with moving this material, Ron agreed to at least two 26 ft trucks OR a trailer. We had discussions about a trailer fitting into the street of the pick up. We had discussions about Ron sending two trucks on the morning of December 12th and a third truck ready to leave Jersey if we needed it. I was also assured that my price would not exceed $6100 except perhaps for some minor box supplies. (Recorded calls you can verify)
• I, still, not being comfortable that there would be additional expenses, asked to speak with a supervisor who could assure me that I would not be charged more. I was passes to a sales supervisor named Pierre. After explaining my needs to Pierre, he increased the amount of boxes and cubic feet and then assured me I would be fine. He and i also had the conversation about the load requiring at least two 26 ft trucks and maybe part of a third. Again I was assured that I was going to be within my $6100 with perhaps a small charge for packing material. (Recorded calls you can verify)
• The move was a nightmare:
One truck showed up not at 9am but at 6 pm
the second truck didn't show up until noon the next day
the third truck ran out of gas between Jersey and PA - the second truck needed to drive an hour to get to truck number 3. then unload truck 3 and return to Pa.
The crew was very friendly and I tipped them for their very late nights.
• The crew chief then handed me a bill for $24,000……………..$18,000 over the estimate that i had worked so hard to make sure was correct (verified by TWO Plymouth Rock sales people). - I made no more payment and made notes on the signature pages that the job was mis quoted and that I was not signing as approval of the charges. The crew chief informed me he would need to unload the goods.
• I told the crew Chief that i was not going to pay more than $6100 and to unload if that was the procedure. He declined to unload because of the hour. He asked me to stay in a local hotel until morning, which i did. He would contact Plymouth rock and bring the goods back on the next day (Dec 14th). I waited for the call on the 14th to arrange the return of goods. He did not call me. I tried unsuccessfully to contact the driver. I contacted Plymouth rock ( Ron) and got an answering machine. I left a message and got no return call.
The invoice:
• The crew chief quoted me over $5000 in packing material.
90% of the goods were already in boxes from previous moves
this can be verified by the names on the boxes ( U-haul, Mayflower, Bekins, Matheson)
I also furnished - 30 medium boxes of my own and 5 wardrobe boxes and a full roll of bubble pack and several boxes of packing paper.
At $5000 - I would have used 500 wardrobe boxes or 2500 medium boxes. Plymouth Rock actually furnished approx 5 to 10 wardrobe boxes and 20 to 30 medium boxes AT MOST! I may owe $300 in boxes.
• This must be the largest MIS QUOTE Plymouth Rock has ever experienced -XXXat least I hope so.
I never mislead anyone, i was very honest in my explanation to Pierre and Ron about the need for at least 2 to 3 26 ft trucks. I believe that the sales people deal all of the time with people that say they need multiple trucks but don't really need the capacity. They made a mistake on this one and Plymouth Rock needs to make good on the assurances of it's sales department.
The load is mostly couches and tables from older model homes. The load is not worth more than $6000 and I would never agree to pay more to ship it. I would have sent it to consignment if Plymouth rock told me up from it would cost more than $6000 to ship.
