AMS did a great job with just about everything...... except for SHOWING UP! I booked my move 6 weeks in advance. The pickup window was 5 days so I told them I would look at other companies. They consulted dispatch/management then gave me a two day window and stated they were the only company that could gaurantee the two day window and put it in the contract. Because we were closing on our house the day after the two day window I signed with AMS due to the gaurantee. They were fully aware of my tight window and closing date. I called two weeks out and verified. I called 4 days out and verified. I called one day out and was told they did not have a truck to pick me up. They stated they needed a day to work it out and would try some alternatives. Now I must say that Demetrius worked his tail off trying to make it work and explored every option at length but it appeared his hands were tied by management and NO truck availability. Their final solution was to pick me up the following week or move MYSELF (5BR, 3000sq/ft) into a storage unit then they would pick it up later.
Sadly, this was an awful experience. I was stranded in Illinois with the closing on my house in 2 days. I ended up calling a last minute mover that cost me $2000 more that what I was quoted 6 weeks earlier. I had to pay the new owners of my house to let me stay an extra day since it was after closing also.
Now I know there will be a response that "these things happen", and there are "no gaurantees" but that is the exact reason I went with this company because they said they WOULD gaurantee the smaller window of pickup.
I dont think there is anything else I could have done or more hand-holding than I did with frequent check-ins. I booked 6 weeks in advance and paid $700 to reserve the truck, or lack there of.
So, they may be a good moving company when they do show up but don't count on it. I will say that my refund was fast, took about 5 minutes after they figured out they couldnt honor their word or dates. Thanks for nothing Mr. Snijders.
